Obituary of Betty A. Clancy
Please share a memory of Betty to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Betty Clancy died peacefully at Cadbury Continuing Care in Cherry Hill, NJ on Tuesday, June 27, 2017. She was 83.
Betty was born February 6, 1934 to William and Rose Hendry in Philadelpha, PA and married to Vincent P. Clancy for 16 years. Survived by her sister Sr. Rosemary Hendry, Betty was the beloved mother of Eileen Davies (Bernie) and Sheila Behrend (Mike, whom she cherished), the celebrated "Nana" to her four granddaughters Kelly, Kate (Eric), Devon, and Kim, and the sister-in-law to Elaine Hendry (wife of Bettty's late brother William) and their three daughters Michelle, Kelly, and Lisa. Betty's death is also preceded by her brother John Hendry.
A 1951 graduate of Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls, Betty enjoyed her younger years as a cheerleader and member of the Spanish Club. She went on to spend the first six years of her professional life as a Secretary for Philco and 3M before her 20-year career with the Willingboro Township Department of Recreation. In her role as Program Supervisor, Betty united the Willingboro community through countless recreational events and programs each year. Betty also had a long and storied career as a banquet waitress at Four Chefs, Cinelli's, Emmett's Place (with her beloved nephew Kevin), and Finnegan's Wake, to name a few. Known to always keep herself busy, Betty later became an entrepreneur by starting her own cleaning business and also doing clerical work with Willingboro's Advocare OBGYN office, where she was treated like family.
An independent woman long before it was popular, Betty had a very "spirited" personality and was never hesitant about speaking her mind. An avid Philly sports fan, Betty also enjoyed bingo, playing the lottery, frequenting the local diners, and being a generous tipper. Deeply proud of her Irish heritage, one of her greatest life passions was Irish dancing — something she'll now be teaching in heaven.
Friends and relatives are invited to join Betty's family in a funeral mass on Friday, June 30 at 10:30am at Corpus Christi Church, 11 South Sunset Road in Willingboro, NJ. Luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers at Betty's request, memorial donations can be made to Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls (1000 W. Lycoming St, Philadelphia PA, 19140, Attn: Advancement) or via "Online Donations" at www.littleflowerhighschool.org.
