Robert J. Hartman 88, of Palm Beach Gardens Florida, passed away peacefully at home on December 5th with his wife Marguerite by his side.
Bob was born and raised in Atlantic City New Jersey by his parents Eileen and John Hartman. He attended and graduated from Our Lady Star of the Sea Grammar school in 1949. He went on to Holy Spirit High School where he graduated in 1953. During his high school years, he was involved in many school activities, was a member of the student government, and played Varsity football, track, and basketball. He had a great sense of humor and was duly noted in the class yearbook as “always the clown”. He then attended and graduated from LaSalle College in Philadelphia in 1957.
During that same year he married his high school sweetheart, Rosann Elliot. In addition, he was also commissioned a Naval Officer from 1957 until 1962 when he was Honorably Discharged due to a service-connected disability. During many of those years he was stationed aboard the USS Ranger Aircraft Carrier. In 1963 Bob began working for the state of New Jersey in the department of personnel, division of examinations. He rose to become the director of examinations and lastly to the position of Deputy Commissioner of Personnel under Governor Thomas Kean until 1991 when he retired.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Rosann Eliot Hartman, in 2002. He was also preceded by his parents, John and Eileen Hartman, his sister Eileen Carroll and his brother Michael Hartman. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Marguerite Graham Hartman, as well as his beloved children, Patricia Congemi (Andy), Christine Congdon (Kevin), Robert Hartman Jr. (Karen), and Scott Hartman, as well as his step children, Cynthia Goldberg (Bob), Pamela Zambelli (Fulvio), Jeannine Ngwira (Pachero), and Marguerite Montgomery (David). Bob is survived by his brother David Hartman (Betsy), and sister Catherine Hartman. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Christy Eckert (Marty), Shannon Congdon, Keith Congdon, Robert Hartman III, Amy Hartman (Troy Hood), Chase Hartman (Sarah Scialdo), as well as four great grandchildren, Austin Eckert, and Bodhi, Quinn, and Uriah Hood and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition, he is survived by his step grandchildren, Matthew Serra (Abby), Daniel Serra (Lupita), Rachel Serra (Simba), Timothy Serra (Brittany), John Serra (Summer), Ryan Goldberg (Lea), Gavin Montgomery, and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his loyal fur baby, Buddy.
The family wishes to extend its sincere gratitude to the nurses, staff, and volunteers at the Infusion Center at Jupiter Medical Center in Jupiter, Florida. Thank you for your excellent care and kindness you always showed Bob over the years.
Bob was a devout Catholic and parishioner at Saint Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He was a kind, caring and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He always had a smile and a kind word (or joke). Bob enriched the lives of all who knew him. More than anything he loved his family, and they loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing, Thursday evening, January 4, 2024, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Goes-Scolieri Funeral Home, 212 Veterans Parkway, Willingboro, New Jersey.
Liturgy of Chrstian Burial will be celebrated Friday January 5, 2024, at 10:30am, at the Corpus Christi CatholicChurch, 11 S. Sunset Road, Willingboro, New Jersey. Relatives and friends please meet directly at church Friday Morning. Intermnet : will follow at Brigadier General William Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown,NJ.
