I will always remember my grandmother, Agnes Novak, for the love, generosity, and laughter she shared with our family. For as long as I live, I will be grateful that she always kept her home open for me, my siblings, and parents during our times of need. I remember her for her ability to find humor in just about anything, from the bizarre to the otherwise frustrating.
Many of my fondest memories, from infancy to adulthood, are moments I shared with my grandmother, from the old songs she would sing to me as lullabies, such as "Sonny Boy", with "Seany" substituted for "Sonny", and the song, "Dreamer's Holiday", to her amusing and often hilarious stories from her childhood at The Philadelphia Home for Catholic Girls, which she frequently referred to as "The Home". Despite her difficult life, grandma was often able to find humor in the face of adversity.

Lyrics to "Sonny Boy", as I recall from my grandma's lullaby version:
Climb up on my knee, Seany boy
Though you're only three, Seany boy
You've no way of knowing
There's no way of showing what you mean to me, Seany boy
When there are grey skies
I don't mind the grey skies
You make them blue, Seany boy
You're sent from heaven, and I know your worth
You made a heaven for me here on earth
When I'm old and grey, dear
Promise you won't stray, dear
For I love you so, Seany boy

I think she used "Dreamer's Holiday" as a lullaby for me because the lyrics included butterflies and flight, and she was aware of my early fascination with butterflies and aircraft.

We will always remember Agnes as a good friend to our Mother, Mae Kling who passed on October 19, 2022. Many memories and laughs that Mae & Agnes shared were treasured by her. I could sit for hours listening to the funny stories Mae shared from the trips her and my Father in Law "Buddy" took with Agnes and Fred. Agnes was always quick witted and could laugh at anything. She will always be remembered fondly. May she rest in Peace with the Lord. Our sincere condolences to the family.

Decades of life and memories. From the joint birthday parties of Debbie & Janet and the wild times watching Freddie, Linda, Janet and Debbie play and goof around. Aunt Grace and Uncle Freddie’s house in Philadelphia was a favorite visit; I thought their street was so interesting and a white horse sometimes was riding through. Their home in New Jersey had the swing set (which I think is still there) and back in the day was a bragging item to own.
Aunt Grace made time for birthdays, graduations, family picnics, weddings, showers, good days and sad days Hours and hours on the phone between CA and NJ. The absolute hilarity of Aunt Grace and Aunt Eleanor; “absolutely nothing” could yield hysterics. The fun we all had when I came into town and we did the casino trip. The great time we all had in Lake George. The planning we did for a bus trip to CA that never came to fruition. The tough days and the good days. The perseverance with health.
The joy she had when Debbie and the family came back to New Jersey; the gratitude she had every day. Aunt Grace was humble, smart, a comedian and someone who lived through some of life’s biggest challenges. Aunt Grace was also a hard worker and had a career late into life. People loved and respected her. Aunt Grace loved her family and gave everyone an enriched life. She was the baby of a family that clung to each other despite their challenges and stayed engaged throughout the decades. We will all have a piece of Aunt Grace with us and treasure the humor and grace that she taught us.
