I had the blessing getting to know Mr. and Mrs. Gilmore when I met their daughter, Susan, who was a classmate at Holy Cross High School. Susan and I later attended La Salle University and roomed together in the dorm.
Mr. and Mrs. Gilmore were model adults for Susan and her friends to emulate. In recent years, Susan's daughter, Kat, moved to northern Florida, where she now lives just a few miles from my house. This past Easter and the Easter before, I had the pleasure of visiting the family at Kat's house and enjoying wonderful conversations with Mr. Gilmore. He was a sharp, warm, personable, and engaging conversationalist and shared his views the world around us based on his unique lifelong experiences.
I did not know about the early illnesses and experiences that may have left a lesser person feeling defeated, but anyone who had the opportunity to meet him could tell they were speaking to a treasure of a person.
I saw him briefly last week when I was home in NJ days before he passed away and cherish the memory of our visits.
Sending thoughts and prayers to Susan and the the entire family.
