To the Borstad family. I don't personally know you, but I recall Renee and her hats from my days as a resident of Willingboro from 1965-1995. I cannot recall many specific instances, however know that Renee impacted the community in a positive way and all these years later, her name and photo resonated with me and stopped me in my tracks as I was leaving another message of condolence on the Goes site.
Sincere condolences on your loss.

Today, sadly I learned of the passing of my dear friend and mentor Renee.
I send my heartfelt condolences to her family at this difficult time. You are in my thoughts and prayers. This is a huge loss to all who knew and loved her.
Renee touched the lives of so many people during her career. She helped more people than anyone I know. She did so passionately, and from her beautiful heart. She changed lives, and caused many a miracle for the residents of Burlington County. I feel so blessed to have crossed paths with her.
We met when I worked for the County and became fast friends. As my career advanced and I became a Constituent Services Staffer for the 8th Legislative District Office, and then on to the 3rd Congressional District offices, Renee was always my cheerleader encouraging me. I would get a call saying “ hey kid, I need some help for someone” well then we would work together to obtain a positive outcome for that person in need. It was a blessing working with her. Renee taught me a great deal about the business, and life itself. She worked long hard hours and often late at night. I was in awe of her, and aspired to be like her.
One of the most meaningful compliments came from my dear Renee who told me I was her most favorite caseworker. Well that meant the world to me coming from her. She comforted me greatly after the loss of my beautiful mother. For that I am eternally grateful.
This incredible woman was truly one of my hero’s, and her friendship will forever live on in my heart.
I love you “Hat Lady”! Until we meet again one day.
All my love,
Melissa

I remember Renee from when I was working on McGuire AFB and she came and spoke about Consumer Affairs. She was very dedicated to the people she was representing. May she RIP.

The obituary covered everything! Renee was very unique. I remember when I was a kid, a car dealer refused to refund a deposit. Renee made one stern phone call and the refund was made accordingly. Later, as a lawyer, people came to me with minor consumer complaints. Instead of charging them, I called Renee and she advocated for them to successful conclusions.
Sincere condolences to the family. Renee was a very accomplished, self-made success.

I knew Renee through Burlington County College. We attended there at the same time. She was the first to be honored by being named to The College Hall of Fame. I was the second. I believe we were both in the Alumni Association also. I have followed her successful career in the Burlington County Consumers Protection also. I'm very sorry to hear of her passing.

I first met Mrs. Borstad back in the late 80's. I was part of a group of homeowners who were having a problem and someone suggested that I contact her. They said she would help. I did and she did. It did not matter who you were, your color, you party or whatever. She looked at everyone the same and did her best to fix whatever issue you had. During the time of dealing we my problem, we became friends. She decided to run for a political office one year and I tried to help however I could. I stopped by the office one day and as I sat down I started to talk about the political office she was running for and before I got my first sentence out she stopped me. She said "I don't discuss politics while I'm at work. I said to myself, "Wow, this lady is legit". I wish more were like her. I later wrote an article and sent it into the Times and the title was "The green chair by the door". I wrote this because in her office at that time there was this green chair right next to the door as you entered and this is where people would sit to wait their turn. On occasion you might hear some of the complaints others were making and just sitting in this green chair could sometimes give you and idea of just how she ran her office. One of her expressions was "I may not put out the fire but I will try to keep it from becoming a blaze" and most times she did. I loved her honesty, dedication and respect that she showed to all. And if you wanted to brighten her day and put a smile on her face, just ask her how her grand children were doing. An outstanding Lady that will be surely missed by all that had a chance to meet her. R.I.P. Mrs. Renee` L. Borstad.

My heartfelt condolences to Renee's family. Her positive impact on Burlington County, especially consumers, and her incredible outgoing personality, can not be summarized in a few words. As the county's information officer I had the good fortune to work with Renee and publicize her many consumer pursuits. She was smart, bold, devoted to her mission, and through it all, fun to be around. There will never be another individual like her. Rest in Peace, Hat Lady, Rest in Peace.

What a "Grand Lady" and advocate for many in Burlington County. As a Realtor in Mt Holly for 40 years, Renee was always willing to point me in the right direction when I had a question or call me for real estate insight regarding a consumers inquiry. Always cheerful, fair and firm and we'd end chats with "let's have coffee soon". She leaves a huge void to public service and I'll miss her and her hats. Peace, Renee.

My sincere sympathy to the family. Renee was such a strong force in every ones lives for as long as I had the pleasure of knowing her. She will be missed by everyone she touched. She would be the first one to offer help whenever needed. She was a client for over 40 years. Even in my retirement living hundreds of miles away she offered her help last fall after a devastating hurricane caused much damage to the county I now live in in North Carolina. She called me from her Rehab, dealing with her own health problems, wondering if there was something she could do for me. Amazing, amazing friend. This was Renee. See you again someday dear friend.

Renée Borstad has always been my mentor and heroine. She was the person who believed in me when I was a single parent of 2 children and working on a 2 year degree at BCCC. She took me on as a student apprentice. I learned so much from Renée and with her guidance I was able to work for NJ State Government’s Department of Community Resources In Trenton, where I worked for 23 years. She will always fill a warm spot in my heart and I will never forget her. I send my Condolences to her family and close friends.

We extend our deepest sympathy to Mrs. Borstad’s family. Although we never met, we knew her reputation as a supreme consumer advocate, and when our attempts to settle a problem with the installers of our kitchen floor were unsuccessful, we knew who would help us. Before we knew it, our money had been refunded, thanks to this great lady. I often said if I were young again and choosing a career, I’d want to follow in her footsteps. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
May the Lord grant you comfort and peace.

I am a BUR’R’L’T’N BOY and I met Renee many, many moons ago through my dear friend and mentor Sidney W. Bookbinder. From the second I was introduced I knew this lady was a mover and a shaker. I did business with her in her position for many years but my fondest memory was one evening when I had been asked to be the MC at a Burlington County Cancer Association fundraiser and they were roasting Renee. WOW, what an evening with the speakers as they praised her for hours. As the evening wound down I thought I would close out the event with a little humor. So I said to the audience, “As we all well know, it ain’t over until the fat lady sings and I invited Renee up to the podium and she BELTED out a rendition of God Bless America that I have never heard better since. Maybe 40+ years ago. THANK YOU Renee for the memories.

I worked for Renee for over 28 years (1984) starting as a Asst Superintendent of Burlington County Weights & Measures till 2011 when I retired as a Deputy Superintendent. She was a Boss & a friend & sometimes a Mom to me. For all those Years.
Our connections of coming, from NYC, the Air Force & and Scouting kind of helped. She always stuck up for her people from Businesses to the Freeholders. she would plainly tell you what she thought about in a New York Minute.
She would move Mountains too help Friends or Consumers. I will miss her RIP
